  • Sun Moon Lake Swimming Carnival

  • Overview:Nantou is the only county in Taiwan that is not littoral. It does have the most beautiful lake to make up for the loss. Sun Moon Lake, the largest fresh water lake in Taiwan, is also the most visit location for foreign travelers. Due to its unique location, Sun Moon Lake has become the popular spot to host swimming, cycling, and marathon events.

Intro

Sun Moon Lake Swimming Carnival is the largest event to take place at the lake every year. Starting from 1983, swimmers from all over the world gather here around Moon Festival time and participate in this event. The event is about 3000 meters long and is officially listed in the ISHOF in 2002 with thousands of people swimming across the lake to achieve the record. 


Transportation

1. Sun Moon Lake (swimming event) 
From Taipei: 
Take Highway 3 and exit at Wufeng junction to merge onto Highway 6. Exit at Ailan Junction and merge to Provincial Highway 14 to Puli. At Puli, merge onto Provincial Highway 21 to Yuchih and finally Sun Moon Lake. 

From Kaohsiung:
Take Highway 3 and exit at Zushan junction to merge onto Provincial Highway 3 and then 16 to Shuili and finally Sun Moon Lake

2. Puli Geography Center Tablet (Wuling Bicycle)
From Highway 3, exit at Wufeng junction to merge onto Highway 6. Drive to end of highway and turn right to merge onto Provincial Highway 14 to Puli. 

3. Caotun (Jung-Tan Blvd. Marathon)
Take Highway 3 and exit Caotun Junction. Merge onto Provincial Highway 14 to Caotun
