Keeping up with the trend of the times, the Small and Medium Enterprise Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs launched the “TAIWAN One Town One Product (OTOP)” Online Mall on July 4, 2016, which not only provides consumers with new online shopping options but makes it easier for local and foreign visitors to purchase high quality and locally-featured Taiwanese products.

In 1989, the Ministry of Economic Affairs already adopted the OTOP program to facilitate the development of unique local industries. Many featured products rich in story and culture were created and became popular among local and foreign visitors alike. In addition, the Administration established the Sun Moon Lake OTOP Store and has been collaborating with airports and hotels to showcase and sell OTOP products. In order to provide a more convenient option for shoppers and an effective marketing platform for local businesses, this year the Administration built the Online Mall to bring existing physical and virtual OTOP channels together, utilizing the O2O (Online To Offline) business model to achieve the effect of “online shopping, offline experience” and “information flow and cash flow online, commercial flow and service flow offline.” By combining the advantages of e-commerce and physical retail stores, a win-win-win situation can be accomplished for all involved, including physical stores, OTOP businesses, consumers and platform providers.

As an authorized OTOP distribution channel, the National Cultural and Creative Gift Center also supports the online marketing strategy which generates long-term benefits for a large number of local businesses. With the help of the government, high quality and locally-featured products can be introduced to both domestic and global markets, making Taiwanese brands well-known worldwide.

To celebrate the launch of the Online Mall, the Administration is working with 6 authorized distribution channels, namely Sun Moon Lake OTOP Store, Changhua Souvenir Center, GOZI Cultural and Creative, National Cultural and Creative Gift Center, Taipei Children's Amusement Park and Asia Pacific Hotel, on the implementation of “OTOP Marketing Alliance.” Many in-store promotions and early bird giveaways (20 per store per day) are offered throughout the celebration period until July 31, 2016. Go to the stores and receive your free gift with purchase at the OTOP Online Mall. For those who sign up on the Online Mall on the spot, 500 reward points and $200 e-coupon will be provided.

TAIWAN One Town One Product Online Mall aims to accelerate the development of unique local businesses by encouraging offline consumers to shop online. It is pivotal for small and medium enterprises to make good use of internet technology and O2O marketing strategies which allow them to go from online to offline and then back online. According to the Administration, the first series of promotional events will help increase small and medium enterprises’ revenue by a projected 3% or more.
